River to Tokyo

In March 2020, one week before the Olympics was canceled due to Covid-19, Christine Cavallo was training for Olympic Trials with a new rowing partner after recently parting ways with her long time partner Michelle Sechser. Trials were postponed and It wouldn’t be until a year later that trials were rescheduled and she would find herself racing against her old teammate. Only first place qualified for the Tokyo Olympics.

I shot and edited this short documentary on Christine: 3 time national rowing champion and 3 time world record holder. Christine had a hell of a year leading up to Olympic Trials. Not only did she have to deal with the pandemic, she ran into a boat load of other bumps in the road. But not even an injury that prevented her from training, a car accident, or parting ways with her long time rowing partner broke her unshakable positivity.

John and Nic are unlikely workmates. John has lived and painted in the same loft on South Street in New York City since 1979 and now shares the space with Nic, a young artist with an unusual way of drawing with chalk.

This short documentary follows the changing neighborhood of the loft, Nic's mesmerizing way of working with chalk and an emotional art piece by John to memorialize his wife who passed away from cancer. John and Nic's differing personalities and art styles come together to form a unique friendship.
